CAST LIST
Title: The Elusive Jobberknoll
(This name means nothing. I like the sound of it)
Setting: Hogwarts. 22 years after the war (so seventh years were born five years after the war)
The war was mostly fought in Britain, but the effects were global. Knowing that many Death Eaters joined his ranks of the premise of blood purity, a strong reaction has been gaining momentum against the longest lines of purebloods. Under the mantra of "Never Again", witches and wizards have begun to look at their neighbours with distrust. In Britain, there is distrust. In Europe, there is rising conflict. Beauxbatons has recommended to many students of the oldest families that it would not be safe if they returned this year.
In Hogwarts, it's technically business as usual, except there are more exchange students than anyone really remembers happening. And the knowledge that this should be a Tirwizard year at Beauxbatons, but no one went anywhere. And the students with parents who work in the ministry are hearing worrying rumours. Dumbledore's Army is still going; although technically it's just a Defense Against the Dark Arts hobby group, there are some students who elect to keep their membership secret even from the teachers.
Classes are still happening, the Quidditch cup is still on. There's a ball at Christmas. Business as usual.
(This is a SETTING. I won't be running any plots. I don't have time! Players may ignore it or run with it)
Canon Veracity:
The events of the books took place, but the people involved may change to fit the characters in the game.
World rules apply regarding magic, creatures, school rules, but the Rule of Cool overrides canon in all cases, as does the Rule of Fitting Your Character To the Books.
e.g. No Discworld werewolves; but there's no upper limit on who can have canonically 'rare' magic or abilities. If you can justify your character being a metamorphmagus or a half-giant, then do so.
Characters Allowed:
Fandom characters (with altered backstory) and OCs.
No Harry Potter characters in game or as relatives to characters. Dumbledore existed, maybe even Harry Potter existed, but no epilogue characters, and no long lost grandnieces of Sirius Black.
The one exception: ghosts
Notes:
This is an open invitation to continue (or reset) continuity from the first experimental Mixed Muses post. Threads on that don't have to be canon, but you can play from them if you like. The app process is just so I can stick up something like a cast list and establish roles - so we don't end up with seven Seekers and five potions masters, unless someone thinks that's a great idea.
The fact that the setting above wasn't mentioned in the MM post should give you an idea about how little that setting might actually effect day-to-day life at Hogwarts :)
Time is flexible. I'm guessing something approximating real time would be easier for people, but we'll see how it goes. (So threads starting today would be two weeks after the start of the school year)
Application (please comment to this post with the character journal and the following:)
1) Your name
2) Character name/fandom
3) Role:
- Student (Give year, House, role in the student body (prefect, Quidditch position, clubs. I will draw up a roster when there are apps to draw up from).
- Teacher (Give subject, House affiliation)
- Other member of staff
- Hogsmeade resident
4) Any relevant backstory details, including how you plan to merge pup's canon with HP canon.
EXAMPLE APPLICATION
1) Debi (IB)
2) Dinah Lance / DC Comics.
3) Student: 7th year Gryffindor. Head Girl. Leader of Dumbledore's Army.
4) In canon, Dinah Lance was the daughter of the first Black Canary, and grew up in the shadow of the Justice Society of America. In this universe, Dinah Drake was an auror who was in the Order of the Jobberknoll, and her husband Larry Lance, a muggle police officer who died at the hands of a remaining Death Eater when their daughter was a child. Dinah Lance was brought up primarily by her mother and by other members of the Order, upon whom she looks as secondary parents. At school, she's driven almost entirely by her burning desire to follow in the example of her mother and uncles. She excels in Defense Against the Dark Arts and Dueling, and is surprisingly good at Herbology. She's adequate at Potions and Arithmancy, but only enough to get by in her NEWTS.
She was a Chaser on the Gryffindor team until last year, when she gave it up to focus on prefect and Dumbledore's Army duties. Her Patronus is a canary.

Date: 2011-09-16 06:30 am (UTC)2) Tyler Marlocke/ PS238 Dogooder Press
3) Student: First Year Gryffindor familiar: Eagle Owl, Svati. Wand: 7.5 inches, Cypress, dragon's heartstring, formerly belonged to paternal grandfather.
4) Tyler is the son of two of Earth's mightiest heroes, and has all the superpowers of a piece of paper. In this universe, he's the son of two of Aurors who work for the Ministry of Magic, and while his parents expect him to be as great a wizard as they are, his only claim to power has been the acceptance letter to Hogwarts. Tyler's just a little afraid of all of this, because he's SEEN what Ministry officials have brought home from work. Even with his paternal grandfather's wand in hand, he's entirely dubious about his own ability to do anything magical at all. As a reward for the acceptance letter however, he's gotten to pick a familiar, and for sheer usefulness, he asked for an owl, ...which his parents took a little far.
At school, he wants nothing more than to do well in his classes and hope that someday, his parents will back off on the subject of him swinging a wand. He does very well in his first year courses for History, Potions, Astronomy, and oddly enough, Defense Against the Dark Arts (if only because he's a wicked knack for objects accurately and ducking and has the theory down). Anything that involves waving a wand however, he will fail at.

Date: 2011-09-18 02:47 pm (UTC)2) Stephanie Brown, DC Comics
3) Teacher. Totally just a teacher.
4) In canon, Stephanie Brown was the Robin who just never, ever gave up. Daughter of a wannabe costumed criminal, she made her own identity as Spoiler and then moved on to Robin and then, when that didn't work out so well, she spent some time recovering and then became the fourth Batgirl.
In this universe: Professor Brown is new to the school, relatively inexperienced at teaching, and never entirely sure if the more senior teachers are taking the mickey out of her just because she's young, ish - 29 - and American and only really feels at home when she's in a fight. She's only lived in this country since she finished at Salem Witches' College and joined the world-class Aurors here, and that wasn't all that many years ago.
Teaching is sort of a change of career, you might say. Sort of.
Her father was a Dark wizard who wasn't good enough at it to ever get anywhere, and her mother was a bit useless all around, but Steph was born during the last few years of The War and she's always wanted nothing more than to Protect Everyone. Ever. Even in America, Voldemort's shadow was very long.
When she came to England to study, she was one of only a few American Aurors sent over to learn from the best, and felt very isolated at first. Dinah Drake mentored her and introduced her around, and Stephanie's determination and unshakeable belief in Doing The Right Thing Even When It Sucks led to her being brought into the Order of the Jobberknoll.
She will probably never go back to America. She loves her life here. And she is finding that she really loves teaching, too. She's been at Hogwarts only for a month, since the start of the school year, and although there's a lot to learn she's thriving on it.

Date: 2011-09-18 05:07 pm (UTC)2) Sokka Aquam / Bastardized from ATLA, mostly from
3) Professor of Potions, former Ravenclaw student of Hogwarts. Heads a Potions Club for students who don't get enough explosions from his usual classes. Casual student of muggle matters, especially technology.
4) In canon, Sokka is the oldest son of the Southern Water Tribe, home to a people who have the ability to control water running through their blood. Sokka does not have this ability himself and isn't too worried about - he's more concerned with practical matters, like hunting and inventing low-tech solutions to high-tech problems. He is excellent with a boomerang and near-genius with spur of the moment inventions. He is very protective of his sister - a waterbending prodigy - and his village and family as a whole.
In this universe, the water-related fun in his family is due to various relatives and ancestors of Merfolk bloodline. Nearly all of his relations carry some sort of trait back to those magical creatures, some more than others. Sokka? Carries practically none. Enough "none" for him to dismiss the connection entirely. His sister? Has been teased, by him, more than once that she might be more Merfolk than witch.
(this is subject to change in the course of a Katara being apped and controlled by someone else, but will be how I play him and his family until that moment. this is why retcon exists, I'm told.)
Sokka's focus through school was on Potions and Muggle Studies, with frequent interruptions for inventions and trouble-making. He is not the reincarnation of the Weaseley Twins but it wouldn't have been hard for him to open his own joke and prank shop after graduation. His old school friends are mostly those who often gave him an excuse to play with dangerous spells and ingredients to create something fantastically disturbing to the student body.
He is kind of pants at wand magic, couldn't manage a nonverbal spell to save his life, and would sooner punch someone muggle-style than attempt a magical duel. But it's worked for him so far.

Date: 2011-09-18 08:14 pm (UTC)2) Leah Ross / Original Character
3) Teacher: History of Magic, Gryffindor.
4) Leah Ross is an OC superhero who was a gifted archer, ballistics expert and field tactician until a supervillain destroyed both her eyes, after which she found a new role as an improviser and out of action support.
In THIS universe, Leah was a tearaway Gryffindor in the years after the War, with a trauma form her muggle childhood she never talked about. For the seven years she calmed down, chilled out and discovered that she had a gift for Quidditch; an ability that came hand in hand with having no problem at all keeping track of four balls and fourteen layers in three dimensional space.
When she graduated, she 'walked' striaght onto a place as Seeker for the Appleby Arrows and for England, in a season and a World Cup that are now legendary for fans of both teams.
Her Quidditch career was cut short, howveer after what is officially called a 'magical accident' that destroyed both her eyes, but unconfirmed suggest she was on a secret mission for the ministry at the time.
Magical eyes were easy enough to obtain, but are forbidden in professional Quidditch. Leah retired from everything, until she was told Professor Binns had finally moved on and there was a position to be filled.
Now she teaches in a style very much unlike the dry lectures of her predecessor, she likes to use illusions, charms and transfiguration to make history come to life. She doesn't even care what nicknames her independently moving all-seeing magical glass eyes have earned her.

Date: 2011-09-18 08:33 pm (UTC)2) Joanna "Jo" Harvelle // She's from all those places she's been before. Oh, and her canon. Sometimes. Or, always.
3) New owner of the Three Broomsticks.
(Or new leader-informant of a cadre of secretly meeting Auror's. Maybe.)
4) In Jo's universe she's a hunter of all things spooky and supernatural, raised by many other hunters, who then run's away to finally become the hunter they all raised her to be, she kicks some butts, takes some names, gets some erstwhile crushes....and kind of dies all in the name of love and loyalty for this life of keeping people safe.
In this universe --
Jo's been raised by a mixed marriage, her mother was a muggle and her father was a wizard in the Order/working for the Ministry on very Secret Things, so she's been steeped in both worlds the whole time. Jo really doesn't talk about what either of her parents did, but she's drastically protective (and at times violent) of even the way people talk about both.
She a fiesty, mouthy girl with ideals and a great sense of fun, earning her the title of The Weasley Twin's Heir, but whose sense of right and wrong has never once wavered. She is a Gryffindor through and through. Though she seemed to goof off all the time, she always got high marks, and once she graduated she fell off the side of the world for a few years.
No one heard from her, where she went, what she decided to go be trained in or become, except her name started to crop up in all the right circles. Connected to high names and drastic circumstances that were righted in the last moment. Some whispering that she'd followed in the footsteps of her father, though no one says what that is.
Jo showed up in Hogsmead without any warning, and took over the the Three Broomsticks this past summer. Saying it was always a dream of hers. Which was something she'd mentioned as a kid. But. You know. That was the same month those secret meetings started taking place each week. So who knows what's true now.
She seems to like her job. But it's just as normal that she vanishes for a week or two here and there without any excuse or story to tell, too, now.

Date: 2011-09-19 07:35 pm (UTC)1. Kippur (Kippurbirdy on AIM)
2. Alec Troven OC/Gary Stu of all things.
3. Student 6th year Hufflepuff, Qudditch team captain/Seeker
4. Canon. (This is from his Actual Non-Published Canon as opposed to his Gary Stu canon) Alec is part of a clan of wizarding traveling folk. He's spent most of his life ambling about the UK countryside with a family of witches and wizards, mostly pure blooded. He was never very scholarly inclined, but went to Hogwarts to make his family happy.
He's muddled through his classes somehow despite his severe dyslexia, his only bright spot being insanely good at Qudditch and sometimes Divination. Alec has an odd knack of being able to correctly predict small events, almost like he's remembering them. And he never gets lost.
Alec has a boyfriend named Adrian, a seventh year Ravenclaw who helps him with his spelling and being his friend. Despite all appearances they're a good pair.
5) Wand: is a redwood with a phoenix feather core (donated by his family's phoenix)thirteen inches, swishy.
(I may end up getting a special account just for this Alec.)

Date: 2011-09-19 08:06 pm (UTC)2) Character name/fandom - Inara Serra, Firefly
3) Role: Hogsmeade resident - bookshop assistant - and a little backstory (http://veloxepistola.livejournal.com/523.html)
4) Any relevant backstory details, including how you plan to merge pup's canon with HP canon.
In FF canon, Inara is a Companion, akin to a geisha or other courtesan-type scenario. In AU Hogwarts, she has contracted with House Madrassa, based in London, for essentially the same purposes - though she moves more through social circles as an escort and company, rather than sexual practices. Usually.
She lives in Hogsmeade now, and will not tell anyone why she left London. Inara’s house, right above the small bookshop in which she now works, is the only house in town to have a separate owlery room. Inara and the manager tell anyone who asks that it is to accommodate special orders for the store.
Inara's Animagus is that of a tawny owl, and she is registered as such with the Ministry of Magic. She was a Ravenclaw in school, though always older than her classmates.

Date: 2011-09-22 09:41 pm (UTC)2) Iroh/Avatar, the Last Airbender
3) Role: Keeper of the Keys and Grounds (Hogsmead resident), Hufflepuff Alum. No familiar but raising a recently rescued manticore kitten named Azula. Wand, Birch, 16 inches with a Ki-Rin hair.
4) Iroh was the eldest son of the leader of the Fire Nation. He was an accomplished general, an exceptional Firebender and likely to be the next Firelord. Then his son died and his life seemed pointless. He walked away from all his glory and responsibilities and in doing so found wisdom and peace. He returned to help his younger nephew find his honor and perhaps teach him some of the wisdom Iroh had learned the hard way.
In this canon, Iroh comes from an old family from Asia which has strong ties to the Kami and, if rumors are to be believed, even has Kami blood within them. The family has lots of interests in the West; financial, political and magical. He attended Hogwarts in his youth and once graduating, took his place in his family's empire. Eventually he came to lead the family and produce a son. Then the Second Wizards War happened. His son, Lu Ten (another Hogwarts Graduate) approached his father and argued for the family to declare their support of Hogwarts. Iroh, thinking he was doing what was best for the family as he should, refused. Lu Ten stormed off and never spoke with his father again as he was killed shortly after words by Death Eaters.
Devastated at the lose of his son and his part in his death, Iroh tried to serve the family and managed to hold it together for another seven years but the family's interests were slowly declining. Eventually Iroh couldn't take it anymore, abdicated the patriarchy to his younger brother and disappeared.
Ten years later, Iroh has started his first year as the Keeper of the Keys and Grounds at Hogwarts. Funny enough there is a new Tea Shop in Hogsmead who's proprietor looks an awful lot like the Groundskeeper but he insists everyone call him Uji.
(Note: Due to his Kami blood, Iroh and some members of his family are natural ignimagi. They can manipulate and shape existing fire and in some cases create their own flames. These are normal flames and can be extinguished by normal means. I'm willing to be flexible if this doesn't work for the game.)

Date: 2011-09-22 09:42 pm (UTC)2) Kate Kane/Batwoman
3) Role: Student, 4th year Gryffindor. Familiar: Greater Sooty Owl, Wayne. Wand: 12 inch, ebony with a firebird feather (this wand is actually her mothers).
4) In her original canon, Kate Kane is a dishonorably discharged, ex-Army person who wants to serve and protect. She, her twin sister and her mother were kidnapped by terrorists when she was twelve. She was rescued but her mother and sister were killed (or so she thought, her sister shows up later). After getting kicked out of West Point because she wouldn't lie about being a homosexual, Kate was adrift and didn't know what to do with her life until some idiot tried to mug her. Being a trained solder, she beat the tar out of her assailant but not before Batman swopped in thinking she was going to need help. Impressed by Batman, Kate decided she knew how she could serve and created the Batwoman persona to do her best to make it so no one else had to lose a loved one.
In this canon, Kate, her twin sister and her mother were kidnapped by a Cult that believed it could resurrect Voldemort. Her sister and mother were killed in the ritual before Aurors (lead by her father) from the American Department of Magic were able to find them. Following the kidnapping, Kate underwent sever psychological evaluation until, feed up, she created a party girl persona that convinced her doctors she had recovered and would grow into a healthy, if a bit irresponsible, teen-ager.
Since then, she has been kicked out of many schools for her habit of breaking curfew. The true nature of her late night ramblings were even more dire as she was risking the prohibition of using magic around muggles as she would sneak out at night to perform acts of vigilantism. Eventually, her father elected to send her to Hogwarts, hoping an overseas university would curb her curfew breaking which in a way it has as she knows most of the world's Aurors have come from Hogwarts. Finally she has a real chance to fulfill her real dream of protecting the innocent and punishing the guilty.

3) Role: Student, 1st year Gryffindor. Familiar: None yet. Wand: 8 inch, pine with Roc feather, used but best family could afford.
4) Julie is perhaps one of strongest super heroes of her generation yet due to the commonness of her power set, she doesn't see herself as anything special.
In this canon her entire family has been Hufflepuff and she expects nothing more for herself as she's just not special and that's okay…really. Then the sorting hat put her in Gryffindor and now she's really confused as she doesn't see why. Can she learn what it is the Sorting Hat saw in her?

Date: 2011-09-23 06:10 pm (UTC)2. Trever and Kale Delvar (they're twins and I'm too lazy to do one for both of them)
3. Care of Magical Creatures and ... do we have a Muggle Studies teacher yet? What about a flying teacher?
4. Despite having red hair, being identical twins and in Gryffindor, Kale and Trever were nothing like the Weasly twins. They didn't play pranks on any one or anything like that. They were good, hard working students. Kale was a Chaser on the Gryffindor and Trever always spent far too much time out near the Forbidden Forest finding all sorts of Weird Critters.
They both graduated with high marks and went back home to Ireland for a while. Then they recently came back to Hogwarts to teach. Though there may be more to that.
Both of them are descended from Famous Irish Wizards of Yea Old Times and Kings. So they're sort of Heroes By Default.
Trever also has Veena, his cat, following him around all the time.

Date: 2011-09-25 07:07 pm (UTC)2) Urquhart -- Death and the Devil
3) Student -- Angus Urquhart, Ravenclaw 6th year
4) In his canon, Urquhart is a former crusader with bad PTSD turned into paid assassin. He is a very well educated man and studied at what was soon going to become the Sorbonne in Paris in his youth, one of the three or five universities extant at all in his time. In the end it turns out he was the last Urquhart to be laird at Castle Urquhart on the banks of Loch Ness. In this universe, he's still young and unbroken; he is well-known for his interest in any remotely available girl and breaking rules. Favourite subject is Ancient Runes. His family lives nearby in an old castle by a lake in which there are kelpies, so many that even muggles sometimes see them (which may or may not be Loch Ness). They breed dogs and distill excellent local firewhisky, of which Angus may or may not always have a bottle hidden in his trunk, for emergencies...

2) Will Scarlett, Robin Hood legend-journal will_scarlett
3) 7th year Gryffindor, Beater on the Quidditch team
4) The Scarletts are an old Wizarding family but have never been a rich one, currently Will's father works for a small branch of the Ministry in Nottingham as his mother runs a tea shop in town. The Muggle side of Nottingham has some disturbing corruption going on that keeps slipping into the Wizarding side of things. Robin Locksley, who briefly worked as an Auror and is now working in Nottingham to help things out is a good friend of the Scarletts and has offered Will a job once he finishes at Hogwarts. He's proud of being a part of Dumbledore's Army as he feels its a good preparation for what needs to be done in Nottingham.
Will's thoughts are always returning to home and so in comparison to many of his other classmates hasn't planned for a career other than helping Nottingham. He's a decent student but doesn't consider himself terribly intelligent though he does well in his classes. Transfiguration, Magical Creatures and Defense Against the Dark Arts are his best courses and he's a gifted and aggressive flyer which makes him a strong beater. Even though he's not a prefect, most of Gryffindor know that if they have a problem Will is willing to listen and help if he can.

Date: 2011-09-26 02:18 am (UTC)2) Kirika Yuumura/Noir
3) Student: Slytherin, first year. No clubs as yet.
4) Kirika is a girl trained from an early age by a conspiracy in France as an assassin. Then because they were getting their instructions from ancient prophecy they wiped her memory and sent her out into the world so they could try and kill her repeatedly. In this universe that all happens to except that the conspiracy is magical and the idea of a hidden valley with in walking distance of Paris doesn't break large parts of geography quite as hard. (Hello muggle repelling wards!)
Kirika is at Hogwarts because there's nothing like changing between countries to paper over small holes in your paperwork and there may be a few, incidental people who are still upset that she killed heir friends and relatives.

Date: 2011-09-26 02:16 pm (UTC)2) Rhys Owens/OC
3) Teacher: Muggle Studies, Ravenclaw alum
4) Rhys is old. Very old- not as old as Hogwarts, but he attended within a century of its founding. He managed that by means of a Philosopher's Stone- when he was thirty, his father, a noted alchemist, died and among his possessions, Rhys found nearly-complete notes on the process of creating a Philospher's Stone. He managed to finish it and has lived a long and happy life ever since.
He loves to travel and has been to nearly every country. Sometimes, he chooses to live with muggles for years, or he finds a job in the local magical community. His teaching position at Hogwarts is the first time he's been back to Britain in more than a century.

Date: 2011-09-26 07:48 pm (UTC)2) Teja and Totila -- 'A Battle For Rome'
3) Student -- Gryffindor, 3rd years
4) In their canon, Totila and Teja were the two last kings of the Ostrogoths in Italy; they had been close friends from their youoth and had been educated together at an academy for noble Gothic youths in Regium (Reggio Emilia); that is why in this AU, Teja comes complete with his friend and remote cousin Totila. They're both called Theo as Teja and Totila were, in fact, both short forms of the name Theodoric. They are Gryffindor third years, both excellent at quidditch: the dark Theo (Teja) is trying out as keeper, the blond Theo (Totila) as seeker. The dark Theo is reticent and a bit gothy; the blond Theo is outgoing and charming. They are, however, quite inseparable.

Date: 2011-09-27 08:50 am (UTC)2) Lorenzo de' Medici -- CBBC's Leonardo
3) Student: 6th year Slytherin, prefect
4) Lorenzo de' Medici, historically the main sponsor of the early Italian renaissance, is from a children's series about the youth of Leonardo da Vinci, where he is best friends with Leonardo, a young Niccolo Macchiavelli, and a girl who is going to eventually be the Mona Lisa. However, he suffers from a massive conflict of loyalty because he wants nothing as much as the approval of his father Piero, but Piero turns out to be the main opponent and leader of a strange hooded conspiracy. So, for the AU, Lorenzo needs another massive conflict of loyalty: so I make him a Slytherin with Ravenclaw friends. He's from an old family, he is quite arrogant and conservative at times, and nothing makes him happier than when his parents are proud of him, especially his father, who is rich and influential. However, his best friends are in Ravenclaw, and there are so many new things out there to try and experiment with, a whole new world there for your taking if you're just prepared to let go of what you think you knew and throw your ideas to Leo...

4) In canon (which is a thriller about the ills of electronic voting computers), Sirona is a hacker and part of the group that hacks the voting computers to return a bizarre result (reintroducing monarchy, hence the novel's title), but later turns out to have been a Celtic goddess all along who engineered the whole incident because those computer voting people screwed over then people she used to be tutelary goddess of (that at least is the only motive I can see for her to do what she does). In the Au, she this comes from somewhere in Europe and does arithmancy, the closest thing in the Wizarding World to computers and coding. As in canon, Sirona wears pink streaks in her hair, wildly eccentric clothes, lots of makeup, and combat boots. She gets on well with her colleagues; likes to startle her students with surprising and unexpected methods as her subject is often considered very dull and she wants to show them how cool it is (imagine maths vs. coding).

Date: 2011-10-01 01:29 pm (UTC)2) Trudy Chacon, James Cameron's Avatar
3) Sixth year Hufflepuff, Quidditch Beater; Wand - 12 inches, cinchona wood, chupacabra quill.
4) In canon, Trudy is a former USMC officer and currently a pilot for the RDA on the mining colony on the moon Pandora; she is loyal, easy-going, brave and hardworking.
In this AU, Trudy is the daughter of a Peruvian wizarding scholar and an American Muggle Marine, and thus spent her childhood being your typical military brat. Well, the living in many different countries was normal; the magic was less so. She got sent to Hogwarts instead of a 'normal' school because her family decided to stay in London once Alameda Chacon's service was over. Trudy is talented with magic when it involves explosions, maths, DADA, and/or flying (she's an utter natural when it comes to flight), and has less patience for just about everything else. She has an ambivalent relationship with magic, and a decided inclination for risks and pranks. She's also more inclined to use her fists than her wand.
She's aided in this by her fellow Hufflepuff Beater, Dick Grayson. The two make a formidable team, and are probably one of the main reasons Hufflepuff has been doing so well at Quidditch lately.
Her little sister, Frances ("Frankie") has also just arrived at Hogwarts...and been Sorted into Slytherian. It's widely known that if anyone lays a hand on said Chacon the Smaller, Chacon the Older will end them. Hufflepuffs are, after all, loyal.

Date: 2011-10-02 03:34 am (UTC)2) Dick Grayson, DC Universe
3) Sixth-year Hufflepuff. Beater on the Quidditch team. Prefect, lining up to be Head Boy next year. Keeps Trudy out of trouble when he can.
4) In canon, Dick Grayson was the first Robin, and grew up to be Nightwing. He was fearless, effusive and full of grace. He was born in a circus but joined Bruce Wayne's Cause when his parents died in front of him.
In this AU, Dick was eight when his trapeze-artist parents died. Foul play was suspected but never proven. Dick stayed with his circus family, carrying on his parents' act, as the sole remaining Flying Grayson. His family are Romani and the circus never stayed in one place long.
Long enough for him to get a Hogwarts letter, though. He goes back to the circus for holidays, but he's thrown himself wholeheartedly into school life. He's friendly to everyone, mostly stays out of trouble, and sometimes even manages to keep Trudy Chacon out of trouble too.
His parents were both Muggles, but there were a handful of elder witches and wizards working in the circus, so he wasn't completely unaware of the wizarding world. Just of his place in it.
He has long-ish hair and a fondness for silly hats.

Date: 2011-10-02 04:04 am (UTC)2) Renee Montoya / DC Comics
3) Student: 5th year Gryffindor, Seeker.
4) In canon, Renee is the Question, once a police officer in Gotham City, now a masked vigilante - baseline human but with awesome powers of resisting mental control. she is also a lesbian, disowned by her parents after being outed.
THIS Renee is the daughter of muggle shopkeepers, immigrants from the Caribeean living in London. They are strict Catholics and Were Not Happy at Renee getting a letter from Hogwarts. They tried to keep her out of it for a year. Until accidents started getting out of control and they sent her there with the hope that she'd learn to control it.
Renee has spent the better part of her life trying to come to terms with being someone she's been rasied to hate. Now 15, she's also realising that she's gay, and that's just another battle in the war against herself.
She doesn't know this yet, but she's also a gifted Occulmens.
Leonardo
Date: 2011-10-03 07:42 pm (UTC)2) Leonardo/TMNT Comics
3) Student, 6th year Slytherin
4) Almost two years ago Leo's mother took a killing curse aimed for him. One year later he in-advisably went off in search of the organization that killed her...and nearly lost his life in the process. Since then he and his brothers have been wards of the state while their father is the prime witness to an international dark wizarding ring.
Leo sees his defeat as failure of both his skills and his character, and views the relocation to Hogwarts as ALL HIS FAULT. As a result of this he's quiet bordering on sullen.
As for how the merge is going, it can be read in longish form here (http://agoodmusekickin.livejournal.com/10734.html).
Of note: he is not a turtle. I just haven't gotten him a new icon yet.

3) Student: 6th Year Hufflepuff
And his wand? Extremely swishy. :D
4) The very last thing that Mike's mother told him before she was murdered was, "Do not, under any circumstances, let your brothers go." And he hasn't. Oh sure the four of them have their own interests and follow their own paths, but Mike sees to it that while they are away from home that they'r still a family. Usually by playing pranks, and distracting them from their various interests and woes.
Mike excels at Charms, and not just the magical ones. He's a notorious flirt, and can usually get what he wants with nothing more than a smile. Think Ferris Bueller on a great day.
He's more than willing to play the clown if it means lightening a situation, or taking the heat from someone else. Consider him the diplomatic voice of his brothers, because he's the one that tends to do much of the talking.

Date: 2011-10-03 08:01 pm (UTC)2) Aang/Avatar the Last Airbender
3) Student - Second year Hufflepuff...eventually.
4) In canon Aang is the savior of the world who ran away from his responsibilities and found himself trapped in an iceberg for 100 years. While he was gone the world went to crap.
In this world...well, let's go back 100 years.
Aang is from an Asian school known as the Southern Air Temple. He's the youngest person in the history of the temple to master the school's trademark wandless elemental manipulation techniques, which has earned him the highly coveted tattoos that cover his body. So when the time came to choose a champion from the school to represent it at the Triskaideka-Wizarding Tournament it was kind of a no-brainer.
Aang, along with one of the schools mascot Snow Lions, made their way to the highlands of Scotland to take part in the tournament. Sometime during one of the challenges both boy and Snow Lion disappeared...never to be scene again. It is assumed he died during the challenge.
Unbeknownst to those gathered for the tournament a coup was taking place at the Temple. For years it had been rumored that the monks there were working on a spell of unlimited power, and that it was written on a scroll hidden somewhere in the temple. While all eyes were distracted by Aang's disappearance at the tournament, the temple was sacked and all inside killed.
Every body save Aang's was accounted for, and even the school's other Snow Lion died defending its home.
The spell was never found.
And soon, even the boy who disappeared became a legend.

Date: 2011-10-04 12:53 am (UTC)2) Silas / The Da Vinci Code
3) Student: Fifth Year Slytherin, member of Dueling Club. Familiar is a gray tabby by the name of Amelie. Wand is black walnut at twelve and a half inches with a veela hair core.
4) Silas is a half-blood wizard; muggle mother, wizard--and abusive--father. He had been a Beauxbatons student before his mother left with him to live in England, and he's now a new Hogwarts student in Slytherin House. He's perfectly fluent in English as well as French and though he isn't pureblood, he is certainly tenacious enough to hold his own in a house often thought of as cold and aloof, and unwelcoming to new people. He is still an albino and holds his family history close to the chest, and though he's personable he also tends to be quiet and unobtrusive. His best subjects are Astronomy and Transfiguration.

Date: 2011-10-04 05:22 pm (UTC)2) Aloysius Crumrin, Courtney Crumrin comicbook series.
3) 7th year Slytherin
4) In his original canon, Aloysius is an elderly gentleman/patriarch and an accomplished warlock/sorcerer who is reclusive. He opens his home to his nephew and his family who have fallen on hard financial times. His motives are ulterior however as he wished to keep an eye on his grand niece. He has little to do with the sorcerous community though they call on him when they have a problem too big for them to handle. He also has dealings with supernatural creatures, typically faerie, and is very knowledgeable about them. The Crumrin family is an old one whose members in the Old World tend toward not nice things; vampires, necromancers and liches being among them.
In this canon, the Crumrin name is an old one in the Wizarding world (often associated with Slytherin) but the New World branch has atrophied and been pretty much written off by the Old World. That is until Aloysius is born.
In his early life it became pretty obvious something was odd about him and his parents were clueless as to what to do. There were rumors about the old family of course, but rumors do not prepare you for the reality. But then his grandmother, Lillian Crumrin, arrived to deliver his invitation to Hogwarts personally.
Since then he has attended the school every year and summered amongst his European relatives in order to learn of the true nature of his family. Thus far he is unimpressed, finding nearly all of them childish and petty in their ways and their little kingdoms. While they are unsure what to do with this young man and his American ideas of equality and liberty.
Note: Do we still need a Head Person for Slytherin? If so I'd like to volunteer Aloysius.

Date: 2011-10-07 12:53 am (UTC)2) Barbara Gordon / DC Comics
3) 6th year Gryffindor. No official role.
4) In canon, Barbara was the daughter of Gotham City Police Commissioner Jim Gordon. She was also Batgirl before a bullet through the spine put her in a wheelchair, which eventually led to her becoming Oracle, an information specialist and something of a shadowy mastermind for the superhero community.
In this universe, Barbara is the daughter of Jim Gordon, a high-ranking Auror. Barbara managed to convince her father to take her along on a business trip through Europe. But things went wrong, and Barbara got hit by a curse that was fired wildly through a window. While it didn't kill her, the damage done to her spinal column was so extreme that it couldn't be healed. While the wizarding world doesn't do wheelchairs per se, Babs quickly learned various levitation spells and got used to spending most of her time in a customized chair.
She's also the person to go to if you want to know practically anything about the goings on at Hogwarts. She knows almost every ghost on the grounds, knows how to listen to people to hear what they don't say, and spends large amounts of her spare time developing new spells to, er, listen in on people (not eavesdrop!). She's something of an auxillary member of the DA, but she keeps her involvement secret, so only a select few people know.

Date: 2011-11-26 05:10 am (UTC)2) Character name/fandom: Jack Knight/Starman DC Comics
3) Role: Student, 6th year, Hufflepuff House
role in the student body? The itchy sole (he isn't in any clubs, unless there's one about collecting old stuff, and then he is SO there. Unless he's off, you know, collecting old stuff.)
4) Any relevant backstory details, including how you plan to merge pup's canon with HP canon:
Okay. Jack's dad is Ted Knight, owner and proprietor of Knight's Sticks, a fairly well-to-do wand shop. Which makes it very amusing that Jack has no wand; he was chosen by a wizarding staff. Second hand, at that. Both the staff and Jack's magic work best in starlight, or after a night resting in starlight. Also, his staff lets him fly without a broomstick, which makes up for the embarrassment of not having a wand like all the other kids.
Jack's dad and Dinah's mom canonically had a relationship and stayed close friends after it ended; we are bringing that in-game, with Dinah and Jack growing up together, having a close 'cousin' relationship as a result. Dinah is around the same age as Jack's older brother, David (who is off studying at their dad's cousin's academy in the US or something)
In canon, Jack's dad was a wealthy playboy who was also a brilliant scientist. He invented a tool called a Gravity Rod that absorbed the energy of the stars. He then used that to become the DC Golden Age 'Starman' and fight crime. As one does. His oldest son David was killed shortly after taking over the mantle, and Jack stepped up next. Reluctantly at first, since he was already doing what he loved: being an antiques/junk dealer.
In game, Jack's dad was a wealthy playboy who was also a brilliant wizard. From the house of Gryffindor, he excelled at Astronomy, Charms, and Crafting, eventually making himself a new wand. After graduating, he opened his own shop, focusing on wand-making so Jack grew up surrounded by magic and wands and witches and wizards and books and and and...!! While he idolized his dad for being so important and talented, he is now a normal teenage boy who thinks his dad is just old and boring and doesn't 'get it'.
Jack is an avid collector of old or odd things, Muggle and magic. Some come in handy occasionally, some may be charmed, but most he just shelves and looks at. Not sure what he wants to do, he is definite that he doesn't want to work in his dad's shop and took his O.W.L.s in Muggle Studies, History of Magic, and Flying. Yes, Flying.
