Hello everyone. I'm looking forward to playing again and was wondering how to deal with the time that's passed.

Do we pick up at the point in time where things slowed down or skip that moment in time?

I'm asking because I want to get playing again in the Jobberknoll verse but I'm not sure what makes the most sense.

Jobberknoll Time thing

Just an FYI:

At the request of some players a few weeks ago, I agreed to shift the timeline of the Jobberknoll by 5 years because some of the timelines for some adult characters worked better than way, to make the game war + 22 years instead of 17.

Aaaand then I forgot to update the info post, because I suck at remembering to do things.

I don't think this seriously affects anyone, but let me know if it does!

So I said every two weeks, and you know what else has a two? Tuesday. Sort of.
Which is why I'll be putting up a meeting post for the exploration club soon. Like Thursday soon. Which doesn't have a to sound but does happen in two days. Take what you can.
Since work hates free time I'm going to try and put this up as a sort of framework that people can improv around.
I'm also taking requests for that framework. Tag in here, email me [nocarename AT gmail.com], find me when I ever so rarely slink on AIM.

Order of the Jobberknoll: Attention!

Good evening, Order Members!

Tomorrow The Order of the Jobberknoll meets again!

It has been three weeks as of tomorrow, and thus tomorrow night (and through this weekend based on the first one, and to accommodated all players in all countries) meeting two will be taking place. All sorts of important information:

I. Tomorrow after my work (and likely a quick dinner), Jo's Three Broomsticks Order Meeting Post will go up again, with the same three parts as last time (Greetings, Meet & Greet, and The Meeting itself). These are rather to the point, too!

Greetings is where Jo usually is for three or four tags, somewhere near a door. Or a guard is. Or someone else she might hand off the job to. For telling people where drinks, coats, etc go during their arrival. Meet & Greet is that place where you're encourage to rub elbows with all your fellow members. You can tag into these two at anytime.

The Meeting, totally, most obvious, right? Tagging into this one is a little more complicated, in which I give you two pieces of advice. First, See III. Second, I'm all for thread jumping and won't personally care if you throw in tags everywhere, but the notes in three will get you the most involvement in this part.

II. If you have questions about The Meeting, like whether you're allowed to canon ball into the fun or cannot be there, or if you're character could have been at the meeting even if you are busy this weekend, or even just to see all the thus far recorded random details, see the FAQ ENTRIES HERE.

III. Also. For tagging and threading purposes, especially in the crazy everybody-in-meeting thread, there's totally a chat room. Last time it was 'ElusiveJoberknoll" and it will be again tomorrow. Drop in, hang out, giggle a whole lot, be part of the planning n' roll out and have bunches of fun. We totally want to accomplish this together!

Remember we're the people who brought you death/traitor announcements via LOL!Cat Curse last time.

IV. Super Important Addendum! If you have business you'd like to report to the Order (or even have someone else report for you or something to happen or, well, anything your hair brain brilliance can supply), drop me a comment here or send me an e-mail and we'll totally work it in.

We're open to everything and anything almost. You got an idea, we'll probably be on like white on rice. There so really wasn't a plan last time, so if you've got a twinkle of a sparkle feel free to drop it by me (/us) and we'll get it in, if possible.

[And, yes, I'll be putting up various edited versions of this post before every meeting to come, too.]

Gryffindor Quidditch

Hey everyone, time sort of got away from me and so my plans to possibly do Quidditch try outs fell through. Instead I'd love to post a possible team and handwave that there's been practice going on and everyone can work with what they'd like. I'm going to put the characters and positions that I recall and if I've missed someone, comment and I'll change things. Thanks for your patience.

The White Lotus

And with this post The White Lotus is officially open for business! When this character posts within The White Lotus he will encourage people to call him Uji and will politely correct anyone who calls him Iroh. To help with this I will be using icons from the animated series for Uji and icons with Mako for Iroh. I don't know why this is yet but the pup is being quite adamant.

Here is a description of the place and at some point I plan on drawing the layout. I will edit this post with links to the images once I do.

I would like to offer the tea room as a place to thread even when I have not posted with the following guidelines:
Uji will not be there unless I am running him. All other times Saiyuri (his hostess/business partner) will be in charge.
Saiyuri will maintain peace within the White Lotus. If a fight breaks out, both parties are ejected and refused entry by the unseen servants until Uji reviews what happened. PM me if you wish to work around this.
Eavesdropping within the grounds of the White Lotus is very hard. Not impossible but hard. To do so both parties must agree ahead of time and contact me to make arrangements.

So have fun!

OMG you guys. Not a day goes past right now when I don't get an email with another tantalising bit of "here's some backstory for my character", or "we want to do this for the world, can we?" or "I'm going to app, but my backstory document is TEN THOUSAND WORDS now."

I love every single one of you.

But maybe it's time to do some serious colloborative world building? And by that I mean, a dump post in which people can put things that they've created that effect other people, so we can have a happy and fun collaborative playing in the sandbox.

No priority to anyone, here. If it's awesome, and it doesn't conflict with what someone else has one, I say go for it!

CAST LIST Title: The Elusive Jobberknoll
(This name means nothing. I like the sound of it)

Setting: Hogwarts. 22 years after the war (so seventh years were born five years after the war)

The war was mostly fought in Britain, but the effects were global. Knowing that many Death Eaters joined his ranks of the premise of blood purity, a strong reaction has been gaining momentum against the longest lines of purebloods. Under the mantra of "Never Again", witches and wizards have begun to look at their neighbours with distrust. In Britain, there is distrust. In Europe, there is rising conflict. Beauxbatons has recommended to many students of the oldest families that it would not be safe if they returned this year.

In Hogwarts, it's technically business as usual, except there are more exchange students than anyone really remembers happening. And the knowledge that this should be a Tirwizard year at Beauxbatons, but no one went anywhere. And the students with parents who work in the ministry are hearing worrying rumours. Dumbledore's Army is still going; although technically it's just a Defense Against the Dark Arts hobby group, there are some students who elect to keep their membership secret even from the teachers.

Classes are still happening, the Quidditch cup is still on. There's a ball at Christmas. Business as usual.

The events of the books took place, but the people involved may change to fit the characters in the game.
World rules apply regarding magic, creatures, school rules, but the Rule of Cool overrides canon in all cases, as does the Rule of Fitting Your Character To the Books.
e.g. No Discworld werewolves; but there's no upper limit on who can have canonically 'rare' magic or abilities. If you can justify your character being a metamorphmagus or a half-giant, then do so.

Characters Allowed:
Fandom characters (with altered backstory) and OCs.
No Harry Potter characters in game or as relatives to characters. Dumbledore existed, maybe even Harry Potter existed, but no epilogue characters, and no long lost grandnieces of Sirius Black.
The one exception: ghosts

Notes:
This is an open invitation to continue (or reset) continuity from the first experimental Mixed Muses post. Threads on that don't have to be canon, but you can play from them if you like. The app process is just so I can stick up something like a cast list and establish roles - so we don't end up with seven Seekers and five potions masters, unless someone thinks that's a great idea.

The fact that the setting above wasn't mentioned in the MM post should give you an idea about how little that setting might actually effect day-to-day life at Hogwarts :)

Time is flexible. I'm guessing something approximating real time would be easier for people, but we'll see how it goes. (So threads starting today would be two weeks after the start of the school year)

4) In canon, Dinah Lance was the daughter of the first Black Canary, and grew up in the shadow of the Justice Society of America. In this universe, Dinah Drake was an auror who was in the Order of the Jobberknoll, and her husband Larry Lance, a muggle police officer who died at the hands of a remaining Death Eater when their daughter was a child. Dinah Lance was brought up primarily by her mother and by other members of the Order, upon whom she looks as secondary parents. At school, she's driven almost entirely by her burning desire to follow in the example of her mother and uncles. She excels in Defense Against the Dark Arts and Dueling, and is surprisingly good at Herbology. She's adequate at Potions and Arithmancy, but only enough to get by in her NEWTS.

She was a Chaser on the Gryffindor team until last year, when she gave it up to focus on prefect and Dumbledore's Army duties. Her Patronus is a canary.

Don’t be a git. This means no godmoding, no uncalled for aggression, no stuffing trouts down people’s trousers without the trousers' or trout’s permission.
LJ cuts are your friend.
Adult/edgy/trigger content behind cuts, and clearly labelled. If it develops in a reply to a post, indicate in the subject line and have it so it’s stacked out of sight unless expanded.
If a game hits over 1000 replies, start a new post for it. Otherwise, game posts can be created at any time.
Individual game posts are welcome to have their own more specific rule so long as they don’t directly contradict the community rules ones.

Applications

When apping to the community, send the following information here after joining au_hogwarts and au_hogwartsooc with your accounts.

1) Your main personal LJ.

2) Your email address.

3) Your AIM handle.

4) Personal handle.

5) The character(s) you are applying for, with full name and fandom where applicable.

6) The main journal you will be using to post with; if you will be using multiple accounts, please note them as well.

7) A writing sample between 500-1000 words. It may be split into however many different pieces as you like, making for a few smaller samples or one large one.

Note: Each player only needs to app once. You can app with one mun journal or a number of pup journals but include all journals in your app. If you want to add pup journals later, send us an email with the new journal.

Apps to individual games will be handled by the game-starter in the OOC post for that game.
